Pronouns

In English, we use pronouns in the place of a person’s name. Here is a list of pronouns in English:

Singular

I

You

He

She 

It

Plural

We

You

They

 

 

Differences between Singular and Plural Pronouns:

Singular pronouns are 1 person only. Plural pronouns can consist of 2 or more people. It can include an infinite number of people.

Verb "TO BE"

Singular

  • I am
  • You are
  • He is
  • She is
  • It is

Plural

  • We are
  • You are
  • They are

The pronoun "YOU" is the same for both singular and plural nouns.

This makes learning English a little easier. Some languages have different verb conjugations for the singular and plural “you” but with English, they are the same.

Contractions

Native English speakers often contract words to make them shorter. It is important to learn the proper contractions of words so you can use them and understand when others use them. Let’s look at some examples of contractions:

Singular

I am = I’m

You are = You’re

He is = He’s

She is = She’s

It is = It’s

Plural

We are = we’re

You are = You’re

They are = they’re
